Summer Term 2025

Welcome to the Summer term.  We have lots of brillliant learning to enjoy this term.
English. English is a very important part of children’s lives and we feel very strongly about the power of an excellent text to grab the children’s attention and imagination. Children learn a great deal through stories and much of our teaching is based around key texts, which both the children (and adults) enjoy. The children will be focusing on ‘Escape from
Pompeii’ by Christina Balitt in the first half term and ’The Hundred and One Dalmations’ by Dodie Smith in the second half term. English foci this term: Creative writing, Drama/Role play, Poetry, Newspaper report writing, Diary entries and their own traditional tale.
Maths. The children will be developing their skills in all areas of Maths. They will have the opportunity to develop a range of mathematical skills, starting with fractions, then money,
time, angles and shapes and statistics. Times tables rock stars is an excellent website, which can be used at school, as well as at home. Any opportunity you have whether that be walking/driving to school or during mealtimes- quiz your children on their times tables.
"Times Tables Rock Stars," an exceptional website that can be utilised at both school and home to reinforce the memorisation of the 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s, 4s, 8s, and 6s multiplication tables.
Science. We aim for the children to develop an enthusiasm for and enjoyment of Science. We strive to develop their knowledge and understanding of important scientific
ideas, processes and skills and encourage them to relate these to their everyday experiences in the context of real-life and practical ‘hands-on’ activities. First half term Plants: Children will be able to identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants. Explore the requirements of plants for life and growth and how they vary from plant to plant. Investigate the way in which water is transported within plants. Explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal. Second half term - Forces and Magnets: Children will be able to compare how things move on different surfaces. Notice that some forces need contact
between 2 objects but magnetic forces can act at a distance. Observe how magnets attract or repel each other. Compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of whether they are attracted to a magnet. Describe magnets as having 2 poles.
Geography. We will be exploring different types of settlements, land use, and the difference between urban and rural. Children describe the different human and physical features in their local area and make land use comparisons with New Delhi.
History. How did Britain become part of the Roman empire? Who was Boudicca? How does the timescale of the Bronze Age work relate to the Roman invasion? The children will learn about the Roman Empire and how it was an important part in the spread of Christianity, which went on to become one of the largest and most influential religions in the world. They will start to explain the impact of some changes that have happened throughout the Roman Empire in Britain including; Architecture and technical innovations.
French. This term the children will learn to communicate with others using simple words, phrases and short sentences. (Food and drink, Healthy eating).
Music. Study and compose music from a near contemporary culture. Looking at the work of Bob Marley and others they will study the components of reggae music and work towards creating their own.
RE. In the first half term, through Understanding Christianity, the children will develop an understanding of how Christians believe the Holy Spirit to be an invisible friend who helps them to become more like Jesus through Pentecost. Next half term: through the Emmanuel Project, children will learn about Hinduism and how Hindus take responsibility for gathering good karma and living the right way.
PE. In PE this term, Eagle class will be focussing on Fitness, Tennis, Athletics, Cricket and Swimming. Please could the children have their PE kit in on Wednesday for Lee’s PE lesson and their swimming kit on Thursday.
PSHE. The children will have many open discussions within these lessons. The children will be given the opportunity to express their personal views and opinions, developing their own personal character across the whole curriculum. This terms themes are, Relationships and Changing Me.
Computing. In the first half term, we will be learning how to develop filming and editing video skills through the storyboarding and creation of book trailers. Secondly, using the theme of a ‘Comparison card game’ to understand what a database is. Learning the meanings of records, fields and data. Further exploration will lead to the development of the ideas of sorting and filtering.
Art and Design. How can we create 3 dimensional characters inspired by characters in film and fiction?
Use Modroc or air dry clay to model characters inspired by literature. Consider form, texture, character, structure.
