Happy New Year and welcome back to dove class! we have an exciting term full of new learning and adventures ahead of us. we are looking forward to teaching the children.

 English

This term our English work will be based around two texts: Nibbles the Book Monster and The Tale of Peter Rabbit through the theme ‘growth and fingers’.
They will explore the main themes of the stories, write a wanted poster, a narrative story, write simple instructions and a traditional rhyme.

 

Maths

In maths we will be learning to:

  • Develop fluency in addition and subtraction facts within 10. add and subtract one-digit
    and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero.
  • Recognise and create repeating patterns with objects and shapes
  • Recognise common 2d and 3d shapes presented in different orientations, and know that
    rectangles, triangles, cuboids and pyramids are not always similar to one another.


In addition:

  • We will be adding and subtracting numbers within 20
  • Begin to count and compare numbers up to 50,

and

  • Explore measuring length and height.

 

Religious Education 

In RE this half term, our enquiry question is,  'Why is learning to do good deeds important to jewish families?'

Children will learn about the jewish concept of 'mitzvot'.

Later on in the term we will focus on the question, 'Why does Easter matter to Christians?'

 

Science

In science, this half term,we will be identifying and naming a variety of animals. We will be using vocabulary such as 'carnivores', 'herbivores', 'omnivores', 'fish', 'amphibians', 'reptiles', 'birds' and 'mammals'. Children will observe changes across the 4 seasons and observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.

 

History

In History we will investigate and compare famous explorers Christopher Columbus, Robert Scott and Neil Armstrong.

 

Geography

What is the weather like in the UK?

We will be looking at the countries and cities that make up the UK, keeping a daily weather record and finding out more about hot and cold places in the UK.

 

Art and Design

How can we make prints using the things we find around us?

Explore simple ways to make a print.

Use line, shape, colour and texture to explore pattern, sequencing and symmetry.

 

Design Technology

Puppets, Puppets, Puppets explore methods of joining fabric.

We will design and make a character-based hand puppet using a preferred joining technique, before decorating.

 

PSHE

We will be following the jigsaw programme to generate lots of talk and understanding around the two themes:

‘Dreams and Goals’

and

‘Healthy Me’

 

PE

Please note: PE will still be on a Wednesday and a Friday. please can children come in wearing their PE kit and provide them with enough layers for those colder mornings, and a spare pair of socks if they get wet.

Content:

  • fitness and team building
  • invasion games and dance

 

French and Music will be taught on Monday afternoons with Madame Stacey and Mr Servant.

 

Computing

Understand the basic functions of a bee-bot.

To know that you can use a camera/tablet to make simple videos.

To know that algorithms move a bee-bot accurately to a chosen destination.
